自由に生きる

引き続き『二十歳のころ』より。

「○○のために粉骨砕身」という人は「○○イコール何とか」というのが基本パターンで、その人にとっては○○が何であれ大した問題ではない。戦時中お国のために粉骨砕身していた人は、戦後も色々なことのために粉骨砕身していた。（pp286,森毅）
Someone who wants to exert him/herself to the utmost for ○○ always tend to see that ○○ is equal to something as his/her basic pattern, and it does not matter what ○○ is for him/her. Those who had exerted themselves to the utmost for the state during the war did so for other various things also after the war.(pp286, Mori Tsuyoshi)

自分の持っている価値観を旅先に持って行って、それをメジャーにして判断すると、その土地特有の文化を知ることもできない。自分の味覚感覚でその土地の食べ物を批評するのは失礼だしおこがましい。（pp362,妹尾河童）
If you bring your values to your trip and evaluate things on the ground of it, you never know those peculiar cultures. It is rude and impudent to criticize foods of those places, based on your sense of taste. (pp.362, Seno Kappa)


ここから言えるのは、本当の意味で何かから自由になるというのは実に難しいということでしょう。
We can learn from these words that it is really difficult to be free from something in a real sense.
